12月21日，世界沉浸在“末日”的传言和不安里。有的人去“被救”的地方等候，有人集聚家人以便能"死在一起"。有人笑谈“末日“的荒谬，有人相信一切在末日归零。大多数的人，则按着日程表上的劳作，挥汗如雨地继续拼搏。
12月21日，我上班，下班。晚上，和朋友们去听多伦多交响乐团和曼德森（Mendelssohn）合唱团演出的，持续了75年的圣诞节传统节目，亨德尔的《弥赛亚》。
这是我在20年里第三次在圣诞节去听多伦多交响乐团的《弥赛亚》。这一次唯一的不同是在“世界末日”，心中不免多了一层期盼。
亨德尔只用了24天就完成了清唱剧（oratorios）《弥赛亚》的创作。英国著名的音乐编辑Nicholas Kenyon说：《弥赛亚》不只是一部伟大的音乐作品，它也是西方文明的纪念碑，是音乐演出史上的传奇。
1742年，《弥赛亚》的首场演出是在爱尔兰的首都都柏林。最初的演出只有18人的合唱团和33件管弦乐器。后来，莫扎特1789年重新编谱，同年的伦敦的演出合唱团有275位， 乐器有248件。1859年，伦敦举行亨德尔逝世100周年纪念，合唱团的人数高达2765人，乐器达到460件之多。到了1869年，美国波士顿“和平日节庆”演出时，更创下了万人合唱《哈利路亚》，500件乐器伴奏的旷世记录。
12月21日，位于多伦多市中心的Roy Thomson Hall里座无虚席。看来，有很多人和我一样，选择在这里度过自己的“末日”。
虽然，我不是第一次听亨德尔《弥赛亚》的现场音乐会。我依然被深深地打动。当男高音一唱出comfort ye（你们要受安慰），忽然，270年前，亨德尔在圣灵启示下用音符奋笔疾书，描绘先知以赛亚对盼望救赎主的以色列民宣告弥赛亚到来的画面在我眼前活了起来。在末日的不安中，“你们要受安慰”的歌声从天而降，也把安慰送进每个焦灼不安的灵魂。
从天而降的安慰里，我看见刚刚经历美国校园枪击案的小城，站在在上帝的面前，在痛苦的深渊里。有声音对他们说：“受安慰我的百姓……一切山洼都要填满……耶和华的荣耀必然显现，凡有血气的，要一同看见“。
末日，并不是我们这个时代的发明，《圣经》早就预言，有一天，耶稣要再来，天地要废去，世界上的国也要过去。
末日，是提醒也是盼望。那些在患难中先于我们睡了的亲人，就要在上帝的荣光中像耶稣一样复活。
末日，没有什么可夸耀的。一切的财富名利都如穿过的破衫，在永恒的光中一钱不值。
末日，在上帝到来的日子里，不但“方舟”要废去，人手所建的一切辉煌都黯淡无光。
末日，罪恶冲天，人如羊迷失，个人偏行己路
末日，天使依然宣告："不要惧怕，今天，在大卫的城里，为你们生了救主，就是主基督。”
音乐厅传来天使的歌声“看哪， 你的王来到你这里。他是公义的，并且施行拯救”。 “凡劳苦担重担的，可以到我这里来，我就使你们得安息”。我祈祷，愿末日，每一颗灵魂都在造他爱他的创造主里面得到安慰，并得以安息。
1743年，《弥赛亚》在伦敦上演，英王乔治二世亲临剧院。当英王听到第二部分的终曲《哈利路亚》的合唱时，按捺不住内心的激动，站立起来听完了全曲。从此，站着听《哈利路亚》就成为《弥赛亚》音乐会的传统。无论你是谁，在“万王之王，万主之主”面前，只能屈膝敬拜。
同样，12月21日晚，当“哈利路亚”的乐曲刚响起，全场的观众和领唱的艺术家们集体起立，仰望赐下救赎的基督，盼望耶稣的再来。我站在众人当中，心想：如果今天是末日，在此刻，在“哈利路亚”的歌声中去见上帝该是多么美的福气啊。
但是，亨德尔的《弥赛亚》并没有在“哈利路亚”声中结束。略带凄婉的女声在“哈利路亚”的大合唱后犹如等待中的哭诉，也如等待中守望的晚祭。
"我知道我的救赎主活着”是我《弥赛亚》中的最爱。它是苦难中的信仰，是困惑里的坚信，是没有尽头中的盼望：
”我知道我的救赎主活着
末了必站立在地上
我这皮肉灭绝之后
我必在肉体之外得见神“
我想，这不仅是约伯的相信，也是我内心的盼望。也许，我在肉身之内看不到主再来的日子，也许我在主再来之前h还要受许多的煎熬。但是，因为我知道我的救赎主是复活的主， 就能轻看世上一切临到我的。就是死亡,也无法把我和上帝的爱隔开。
末日，上帝让我再一次看见死亡的真实，死亡的丑陋.
末日，上帝提醒我：耶稣已经胜过死亡，有一天，我也要在永恒的救赎里改变
末日，有声音从天上说：你是我的女儿
末日，我和天使一起高歌：愿颂赞，尊贵，荣耀，权势，都归给坐宝座的和羔羊，直到永永远远。
两个半钟头的音乐会如同一世，带我从末日的沮丧，走进到荣耀的盼望。
